KAP is a form of Psychedelic Assisted Therapy that can be utilized as an option during the course of therapy. Ketamine is a wonderful way of moving away from intellectualizing the process of therapy and moving into a more spiritual exploration of yourself. When combined with EMDR, this can be a truly transformational experience. I partner with local psychiatrists, medical ketamine clinics, and Journey Clinical to ensure this process is appropriate and safe for each client.
Ketamine, originally developed as an anesthetic, is now being widely used in conjunction with therapy for the treatment of PTSD, depression, anxiety, OCD, and substance use disorders. The ketamine dosages used for mental health treatments are lower than that of general anesthesia and allow patients to have a psychedelic experience while still being conscious of their process. Ketamine independently (no therapy) in a medical setting can have benefit, however, integrating ketamine during crucial parts of therapy can allow us to work with typical defense patterns in a way that encourages softening instead of rigidity and can aid in quick and long lasting change.
KAP typically requires a series of treatments and will be offered in a few options during the course of therapy (if KAP is desired and medically approved):
Can be prescribed in lozenge form through a Psychiatrist (virtual or in-person) and is self-administered in your home or in-office (optional therapist present), all preparation and integration session will be held via zoom or in-office.
We can partner with a ketamine clinic in your area that administers the medicine through IV or IM (intramuscular) in a medically supervised clinic. We will do all preparation sessions together, you will have dosing sessions in clinic (optional therapist present), and we will do all integration (therapy) sessions together.
